2nd Regiment Way Point
The Force marched 16 km to the base of Defensa on the night of December 1-2 while Allied artillery bombarded the mountain-mass to cover their arrival and to weaken the German positions. The weather was cold with freezing rain. While the other two regiments stayed at the base, Second Regiment climbed part way up the eastern slope before dawn and spent the day hidden in a grove of trees. That night they began their arduous climb to the northern slope and the cliffs.
