    February 4, 2008: The Chief of Defence Staff grants honour-bearing status to Canadian Special Operations Regiment (CSOR) and Joint Task Force Two (JTF 2). As a result, CSOR now perpetuates the Battle Honours of the First Special Service Force.

    September 1, 2011: The Minister of National Defence awards Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM) the Minister of National Defence Award for Operational Excellence for its efforts in Afghanistan.

    January 27, 2013: The Minister of National Defence recognizes the First Special Service Force military achievement by awarding it the Minister of National Defence’s Award for Operational Excellence.

    September 4, 2014: Canada deploys a small JTF 2 task force to assess the situation in Iraq in conjunction with the U.S. led Operation Inherent Resolve. By October the Government approves a larger Special Operations Task Force deployment as part of Operation Impact.

    December 1, 2005: The Minister of National Defence signs Ministerial Order 2005078 authorizing CANSOFCOM as a command of the Canadian Armed Forces

    February 1, 2006: CANSOFCOM is officially stood up. It consists of a Headquarters, JTF 2, the Canadian Special Operations Regiment (CSOR), 427 Special Operations Aviation Squadron and the Joint Nuclear Biological Chemical Defence Company.

    September 27, 2007: Battle Honours Committee recommends JTF 2 and CSOR to be granted honour bearing status.

    August 13, 2006: The Canadian Special Operations Regiment (CSOR) is established. Based at CFB Petawawa, the new unit is created to cooperate with JTF 2 and can conduct and support a broad range of special operations missions.

    July 2007: The Joint Nuclear Biological Chemical Defence Company is expanded and re-designated the Canadian Joint Incident Response Unit (CJIRU) - a Special Operations Forces Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defence unit.
