    Click for More June 13, 1942: The Office of the Strategic Services (OSS) is Established. It becomes the first independent US intelligence agency. It lasts three years and three months but becomes the basis for the modern Central Intelligence Agency. Col Robert Tryon Frederick Troops enter Fort Harrison by Helena Montana in 1942.
    July 9: First Special Service Force is activated via General Order 50. August 6: US and Canadian governments announce the creation of the joint unit. The first Canadians arrive at Fort Harrison to begin training.

    August 29: Col. Robert Frederick performs the Wings Ceremony and pins jump wings on 1125 fully trained parachutists from FSSF who earned the US Army Parachutist Badge. Includes 35 Canadian officers and 436 other ranks.
